The Not So United States of America
I actually wrote this article during the Winter Olympics this year. It is about a subject I feel strongly about, language in the U.S., and seems relevant with current events happening in Arizona. Although the immigration battle in Arizona isn't solely based on language, it goes hand-in-hand in my opinion. Here is the beginning of the article:
I for one am tired of pushing one for English. I am tired of seeing Spanish words and phrases in public, whether on a restroom door or even on signs describing what is down the aisle at the grocery store. I am tired of opening assembly instructions for a new item I've bought and having to search through all the different languages to find English.
